Advocacy

WORKING TOWARD POLICY CHANGE

Restore Justice trains and supports those who want to develop advocacy skills and learn about the legislative process in Illinois. We organize trips to Springfield each legislative session to engage lawmakers in conversations about our focus areas.

Ways to Become Involved with Advocacy

Join Our Advocacy Team

As a member of our Advocacy Team, you will help us educate legislators about criminal legal reform and build support for issues that matter to you.

Attend a training

Restore Justice offers two FREE advocacy trainings for individuals and organizations interested in advancing change in our state through the legislative process in Springfield.

While we focus on criminal legal system reform, we try to make our training useful for any issue. If you would like custom training for your organization or network, please contact Lindsey Hammond at lhammond@restorejustice.org. You can also sign up for one of our upcoming trainings, which take place both in-person and virtually.

Legislative Advocacy 101

During our Legislative Advocacy 101 training, you will learn about the legislative process in Illinois, get an inside look at how a bill really becomes a law in our state, and develop skills to navigate Springfield and to build support for issues that matter to you.

Advanced Advocacy Training

Our Advanced Advocacy Training dives deeper into the legislative process in Illinois and focuses on how to build relationships with your legislators.

Join us in Springfield

On multiple occasions every legislative session, Restore Justice leads a team of tenacious advocates through the lobbying process at our state capitol. Working in small groups, participants will seek out and educate legislators on issues relating to criminal legal reform and our primary legislative priorities.
