The Backstory
While Restore Justice is just fine at our current size, fine isn’t enough anymore. As the great football player Roy Kent once said, “don’t you dare settle for fine.”
“Not settling for fine,” in our case, means we need to hire more people who have spent decades in prison, to train them to do this work, and to share in one another’s resilience and creativity.
Why We Are Asking for Support
We are growing and we need your help. Join us on December 9 to learn more, to do more to help.
In our first five years, we focused almost exclusively on changing the laws that keep people in prison for what amounts to a lifetime. We believed that if we could just change those laws, we could transform the future for those involved in violence early in life.
For the first time since we were founded, half of our team has been impacted by extreme sentencing, including three men who are former “juvenile lifers.” Together, we are better. We are incredible, and we truly believe we can do anything.
Join us on December 9
Believe in Believe will bring our community together. It will be short, it will surprise you, it will contain incredible stories and music and conversations, and of course, an “ask.”
To support our work, make a donation of any amount. Your donation will register you for the event, which will go live at noon on December 9.
You will receive an email with a link to the live broadcast 24 hours in advance.
Wondering what Believe in Believe means?
Restore Justice is the only policy organization in Illinois specifically working to address issues faced by those serving life or de-facto life sentences and their families. The organization’s purpose is to roll back the “tough on crime” policies of the past, replacing them with compassionate, smart, and safe policies for the future.
